Godzilla vs Anguirus | Kaiju Claymation Fight

Directed by: Fred the Dinosaur
Technique: Claymation

The reason why I chose this work was because I loved the intense, and insane realistic fight scenes with believable looking physics. The art principles and elements used in this video were, movement, shape. Shape is used is used for all the characters in the animation as they were generally the only shapes shown in the animation. In addition, movement is used when the characters are fighting each other to the death. How I can connect this to my own life was when me and my siblings would fight when we were little. The sound & music made this video was like the cherry on top as it totally topped off the video with dramatics music that increased my heart rate making me wanting to know what happens next.

The Mysterious Explorations of Jasper Morello

Directed by: Monster Distributes
Technique: Cutout, and Digital Animation

The reason why I chose this work is because I loved how each and every character was handmade from paper then digitally animated that looked so pleasing to watch. The art principles and elements used in this video include, shape, movement, color. Shape was used from the characters who drove the story, all the way to the ships that flew in the sky. Movement was used when the characters and dynamic objects in the world were moving. Color was very oddly used in this animation as all the colors were dark with little variety which gave a dreadful feel. How I can connect this to my own life is that Jasper did his best to protect the ones he loved, just as I watch and take care of my baby brother. Not only that, but one the main connections to my own life was that both Jasper and me both have needed to overcome tough obstacles in your life. The music and sounds create a immersive feeling that draws the viewers attention and makes them feel like they are experiencing whats truly going on with all the sound effects.

T-SHIRT WAR!! (stop-motion) - Rhett & Link

Directed by: Rhett & Link
Technique: Stopmotion

The reason why i chose this work as one of my favorites is the creativity of using 200+ original shirts to create a story. I thought that not only is it original, but a new way to tell a story. The art principles and elements used in this video were, movement, color. Movement was used in every new T-shirt as each shirt was a new frame. Color was used in the animation for new shirts and to show the progress how far they were in their battle between Rhett and Link. The sounds that were used in the video makes it feel more playful and comedic as the sounds were like humans humming representing speaking. The life connection I have with this animation is with my sister as we like to mess around with each other by pranking each one another.

Sword Art Online - Official Trailer

Directed by: Tomohiko Ito
Technique: Hand drawn

The reason why I chose this animation was because of how wonderful the character development was as you grow on the characters as if they were really apart of your life. The art principles and elements used in this video are, movement, color, shape, lighting, and line. Movement is used for the characters as they moved around in each individually hand drawn frame. Color was used literally everywhere in the animation from the props in the background to the slightest detail on their face. Like color, shape was used all throughout the entire animation as it was all the objects and characters. lighting was used for shading the characters faces to help bring out a more 3d feel while retaining the 2d imagery. Line was used to create all the objects and characters in the animation since it was hand drawn. The real life connection i have with the animation is the drive to never give up no matter how bad things got.

Monsters University Official Trailer

Directed by: Dan Scanlon
Technique: CGI

The reason why I chose this animation is because of the nostalgia it gave me as it is a young childhood memory. I loved how all the characters have such incredible amounts of detail but yet not have a realistic feel to them. The art and elements & principles used in this video are, movement, color, lighting, shape, form, and texture. Movement is used for all characters throughout the story. Color is beautifully used as it is a bright and exciting. lighting is used to realistic shade the character with shadows and highlights to bring the 3d characters to life. Shape is used for the characters and objects as found all throughout the movie. Since it is a 3D animation, form was used due to the 3d models that were made for the props and characters. Lastly, texture was best used in this movie as the amounts of detail in the texture were incredible. From the smooth surfaces of bed pillows to the rough, bumpy sidewalks, this animation used it perfectly. How this animation connects to my life is growing & taking risks which is something i've recently been experiencing lately in my life since i'm at the point in my life where i need to take risks and most importantly, grow up.

The Alchemist's Letter

Directed by: Carlos Andre Stevens
Technique: CGI

The reason why I chose The Alchemist's Letter is because of the beautiful and heart warming story it had. The narrator of the story being the main characters deceased dad who reads off a letter in which he left for him in his secret workshop really made it feel like he was talking to me, which made it more emotional. The art principles and elements used in this animation were, color, shape, form, and lighting. Color was used like crazy since there was so many special effects when the character activated his fathers machine. Shape was used for the main character and all the props in the animation. Form was also used since it was a 3d animation utilizing 3d models. Lastly lighting was one of the best parts of the animation as it totally set the mood of the story. A life connection I have with this animation is reading off letters from grandparents who passed away which made it happy but sad too.
